While the new Mayhem frames were designed around the progressive nature of air shocks, these frames will support coil shock use for certain riders. The linear nature of a coil spring combined with our moderately progressive linkage rates will reduce bottom out resistance relative to the stock air shock. If you ride rough trails without a lot of jumps and drops, a coil can work very well. If you seek out jumps and drops and regularly use full travel, you want to set up a coil shock with sufficient spring rate and compression damping to reduce hard suspension bottoming.
Can I run a coil shock on the new Mayhem 130/150?
